Who We Are and What We Do

The Cancer League, Inc., founded in 1973, is a charitable non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission is to raise funds for accredited non-profit organizations dedicated to the fight against cancer, focusing on early detection, education, patient care, services and research for various types of cancer for men, women and children.

Since our inception, we have raised and donated $3 million toward the fight against cancer—over $1 million has been raised in the last five years alone. Our 50 members and 50 associate members seek to partner with the cancer professionals, researchers and other community members in the quest to find a cure for this devastating disease. Our work takes on special significance given each of our members has coped with cancer—either personally, within her family or in her circle of friends.

We sponsor events throughout the year, all of which are generously supported by residents and businesses in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties. The Holly Ball, held in December, has been our signature fundraising event since our organization’s inception. One hundred percent of Cancer League's allocations are used in supporting Bay Area organizations for the fight against cancer. We cover our ongoing operating costs through our membership dues.

We also organize educational programs for members of The Cancer League and the community to raise awareness of cancer—all of which are self-funded.

Together, we can help find a cure.

Letter From the President of The Cancer League, Inc.

“The Cancer League support for the Mobile Mammography Program at UCSF will help us to provide screening mammography for the underserved in communities that traditionally have low rates of screening. This will be the first digital mobile mammography system in the world! This is only possible with the generous support of people who understand how important early detection of breast cancer is. Thank you for your support!”
